Overview of course

Worksafe Licence information

Our forklift truck training covers the functions required to operate a forklift truck and (if competent) apply for a high risk work licence. This course is for beginners as well as experienced operators. Our experienced high risk work trainers work with participants to ensure they are confident and competent in operating a forklift truck.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised.

National unit of competency:
TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck

  • Pre-course study materials to get you up to speed and optimise your chances of success

  • Training conducted by an experienced worksafe accredited high risk work trainer with strong knowledge of relevant legislation and Australian Standards

  • Practical hands-on training


Assessment will include knowledge, calculation and practical testing. Full details of assessment requirements will be provided on the first day of the course.
Enclosed shoes, appropriate work clothing, current photo I.D.
Australian Vocational Training has the following entry requirements:
You must:

  • All students must be over 18 years of age.

  • Students must reside in Victoria, or, if they are not a Victorian resident, have a valid reason for applying for their forklift licence in Victoria..

  • Participants are required to have general good health and fitness and any pre-existing medical conditions that will affect the training must be disclosed prior to attending..

  • For the LO Licence Course, trainees must have adequate English language skills to safely complete tasks relating to forklifts, such as being able to.


  • Read and correctly interpret safe work method statements, forklift specifications and data plates

  • Complete paperwork such as risk assessments and logbook entries

  • Calculate load weights and ensure safe working loads aren’t exceeded

  • Speak English clearly

  • Explain, describe and verify sometimes complex needs and issues

If you are deemed ‘Not Yet Competent’, you will have the option to sit a re-assessment within 60 days from the first assessment. Only one re-assessment is permitted.


Upon successful completion of our Forklift Licence Course, trainees will be issued with a WorkSafe Notice of Assessment (which can be lodged at Australia Post or online via myworksafe.vic.gov.au along with the lodgement fee of $66.60) and a Statement of Attainment.
