Course Description
This course includes the skills and knowledge required to safely perform basic scaffolding work.
Scaffolding work involves erecting, altering or dismantling a temporary structure to support a platform from which a person or object could fall more than four metres.
This unit applies to scaffolding work involving:
- Modular or prefabricated scaffolds
- Cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500 kg
- Ropes
- Gin wheels
- safety nets and static lines
- Bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork).

Entry Requirements
AVT has the following entry requirements:
Students must:
- Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- Can use the English language at a level that enables the safe performance of high-risk work.
- Participants are required to have general good health and fitness and any pre-existing medical conditions that will affect the training must be disclosed prior to attending.
- White Card – (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry)
- Current Work Safely at Heights ticket (RIIWHS204E or CPCCCM2012)

Course Content and Structure:
Throughout this five-evening scaffolding safety course, you’ll learn the skills required to erect, alter and dismantle modular or prefabricated scaffolding to any height. You’ll also find out how to carefully install and dismantle cantilevered material hoists (up to 500kg), gin wheels, safety nets, static lines and mobile scaffolds.
To complete this scaffolding safety course, you’ll take part in both practical and theoretical training sessions, including written assessments and scaffolding equipment calculations.
HRW Licence Victoria:
To obtain a Victorian Worksafe Licence, you are required to achieve competency in the National Assessment Instrument (NAI) assessment usually on Day 5. A licence to perform High Risk Work is issued by WorkSafe Victoria. On successful completion of this course, you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a license to perform high risk work.
- Participants must reside in Victoria or, if residence is elsewhere, have reasonable grounds for applying for the licence in Victoria. If you do not reside in Victoria, Worksafe may require you to provide them with evidence of your reason for requiring a Victorian HRW Licence.
